Senior Cycle French
French is an optional subject for the Leaving Certificate. Students are strongly encouraged to continue studying French, as having a Modern Foreign Language is a requirement for some Third Level colleges and is an attribute for a wide variety of careers. French classes in 5th and 6th year are mixed ability.
The aim of the Senior Cycle French course is to enhance students’ ability to communicate effectively and confidently in French, using the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students also gain a stronger appreciation of French and Francophone cultures. Through the study of authentic French texts and media, students learn to critically analyse current affairs’ topics relevant to French society and the life of young people.
